Estonian unicorn Bolt acquires Danish startup Viggo
Estonian Bolt has bought Danish startup Viggo for an unnamed amount. This is the first acquisition in Bolt's history.
Founded by Kenneth Herschel and Patrick Pereira in 2019, Viggo is Scandinavia’s first ride-hailing service with a 100% electric car fleet. It has 330 electric cars in its fleet, more than 500 drivers and 450K app users.With this acquisition, Bolt will enter the taxi market in Denmark for the first time and become the largest taxi operator in the country, said Markus Villig, cofounder and CEO of the Estonian company. He also announced a new partnership with another Danish taxi company, Taxi 4x27. That company’s fleet of over 600 vehicles will now be made available on Bolt’s platform.
Founded in Tallinn in 2013 by Markus Villig, Martin Villig, and Oliver Leisalu, Bolt offers ride-hailing services, shared cars and scooters, as well as, food and grocery delivery. It has 150M people in its user base and it operates in 50 countries across Europe and Africa.
