Court declares Estonian startup Liigu bankrupt

Yesterday, the Tartu County Court declared the car rental startup Liigu bankrupt.

Liigu is a startup known for its Liigu Mobility platform was created and developed in collaboration with technology provider Car Rental Gateway Ltd. The platform includes a mobile application that allows customers to book a car remotely. Liigu was founded in Tartu, Estonia in 2021 by Indrek Uibo.

Although the company went into liquidation last fall, a month after declaring bankruptcy Liigu was still talking about its plans to achieve profitability in the near future and the owner's willingness to pour more money into the startup.

Launched four years ago, Liigu hoped to do for car rentals what Uber and Bolt did for cabs. Its goal was to offer a modern car rental service that would compete with the traditional rental companies that people are used to using, for example, when traveling. Only instead of waiting for your keys at the airport, you could rent a car through Liigu in a contactless and keyless way.
