Latvia launches BioPhoT to support innovation
The University of Latvia hosted the presentation of BioPhoT, a joint project of the Latvian state and the scientific community of the country, which will run until at least 2032.
The first stage of BioPhoT will last one and a half years, until November 30, 2026. During this period, the Latvian Ministry of Economy will invest more than €12M in developments useful for the national economy, which may grow into new Latvian companies.
The industries that can participate in BioPhoT are biomedicine, medicine, pharmaceuticals, photonics, intelligent technologies, electronics and engineering systems. The main criterion by which future project participants will be evaluated is the usefulness and social significance of their proposed developments. The maximum available funding for one development will be €200K, and a 12-month deadline has been set for its implementation.
The BioPhoT platform will be managed by the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis and a consortium that will include representatives of other universities in Latvia, including the Institute of Electronics and Computer Science, the Latvian Center for Biomedical Research and Development.
