Taavet Hinrikus and Sten Tamkivi's venture capital company changes name to Skaala
Taavet+Sten, the venture investment company of Wise co-founder Taavet Hinrikus and Teleport founder Sten Tamkivi, will change its name to Skaala. According to the team, Taavet +Sten is growing, and their plans are bigger than just a few of them, hence they have a broader name.
Launched in 2021 and based in Tallinn, Taavet+Sten was created by merging Taavet Hinrikus holding company for investing in startups and Sten Tamkivi's company. Since then, other partners Kristina Simar and Martin Täll have joined the venture company.
Skaala now has 12 employees. As an investment, the fund provides businesses with private equity, public equity, private loans, venture capital, and real assets. Skaala is an evergreen firm, not backed by any LPs. It leads early-stage tech deals with venture fund Plural, founded by Sten Tamkivi, Taavet Hinrikus, Ian Hogarth, and Khaled Helioui.
Taavet+Sten's portfolio includes Estonian startup for negotiations Pactum, German-based biotech startup Insempra, Helsinki-based real estate startup Bob W, Estonian designer of autonomous delivery vehicles Starship Technologies, and others.
