Lithuanian unicorn Surfshark acquires California-based online privacy protection company Ironwall

Lithuanian cybersecurity unicorn Surfshark has acquired California-based online privacy protection company Ironwall, which removes personal information from the Internet. Ironwall's solution protects businesses and governments from cyber and personal threats. Its clients include judges, social workers, law enforcement, healthcare organizations, financial institutions, and those who have been victims of stalking or domestic violence. Ironwall monitors websites and social media, making sensitive information such as home addresses and phone numbers unsearchable. According to the company, if an online platform refuses to remove a home address, Ironwall will take the case to court or the attorney general’s office.

The deal will help Surfshark enter the B2G sector in the United States.

Headquartered in Vilnius and founded in 2018 by Vytautas Kaziukonis, Surfshark has developed online and private security solutions, such as a VPN service, antivirus software, a data leak detection system Alert, a private search tool Search, a service for removing personal data Incogni, and others. In 2022, Surfshark merged with a Lithuanian provider of digital security and privacy solutions for individuals and businesses Nord Security. Surfshark and Nord Security continued to operate as independent companies. Surfshark has more than 400 employees, and its applications have been downloaded more than 12.4M times.
