Latvian defense technology startup Origin raises €4M

Riga-based defense technology startup Origin has secured €4M to drive the development of its drone-launched precision-guided weapon systems.

The company has received €2.4M from Estonian Change Ventures, with additional support from British Silicon Roundabout Ventures. €1.6M comes from EU grants and the Latvian Ministry of Defense. Origin will use the investment to expand its engineering and sales teams.

Origin was founded in 2022 by Agris Kipurs and Ilya Nevdah. The startup has developed BEAK, a man-portable ISR (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance) drone equipped with precision-guidance technology.

The BEAK design retains reusable components, allowing for reductions in operational costs, while other traditional munitions lose valuable components on impact. The device is built using AI and computer vision-based autonomy algorithms. It operates in environments with strong electronic jamming.

Change Ventures is an Estonian pre-seed/seed stage venture capital fund, that backs startups founded by Baltic entrepreneurs. The fund was established by Andris K. Berzins, Rait Ojasaar, and Yrjö Ojasaar in Tallinn in 2017.
