Kaunas-based BrachyDOSE receives investment from Baltic Sandbox Ventures
BrachyDOSE has received a pre-seed investment from the Lithuanian Baltic Sandbox Ventures. The amount of the deal was not disclosed.
Founded in Kaunas in 2014 by Neringa Seperiene and Rimas Seperys, BrachyDOSE has developed equipment for clinics that measure radiation doses to patients during cancer treatment using high-dose brachytherapy (direct introduction of micro-gamma radiation sources into the affected organ). The equipment consists of sensors placed in one or more implantable tubes near the tumor or in a specific organ area. BrachyDOSE has also developed a scanner that receives data from the sensors at the end of a patient's treatment. A machine learning program analyzes the data and alerts doctors about discrepancies between the prescribed and delivered radiation doses. It also predicts potential injuries and treatment outcomes.
According to the company, its development helps reduce the overall cost of treatment by 3-5 times. It also saves up to 50% of the time needed for doctors and medical staff to prepare for treatment.
Founded in 2018 and based in Vilnius, Tallinn, and Helsinki, Baltic Sandbox Ventures is an accelerator and a fund. It invests in Baltic early stage startups which work in deep tech, life sciences, and dual-use technologies. General partner is Andrius Milinavicius.
