The average gross salary in Estonian startups grew up by 14% in the first half of 2023
The average gross salary of Estonian startup workers reached €3,243K and grew up by 14% in the first half of 2023, compared to the same period of the last year. The data was provided by the governmental organization Startup Estonia and the state agency Statistics Estonia. An employee of Estonian origin gets an average paycheck of €3,163K and an employee of foreign origin - €3,288K. Cyber startups pay the most: the average salary there is as high as €4 230. Communication services pay a little less, with an average monthly paycheck of €3,967. Transport and logistics startups are also in the top three, with an average monthly pay of €3,742.
According to the Estonian Tax and Customs Board, Estonian startups paid €108M in labor taxes to the state in the first six months of 2023. That is about 33% more than in the same period last year. Mobility unicorn Bolt paid the highest amount of labor taxes - €17,5M. Money transfer service Wise paid €17M of labor taxes, online identity verification company Veriff - €4,9M, fintech Monese - €2,8M, and digital customer service provider Glia - €2,4M.
In the first six months of 2023, Estonian startups employed 9,927K people, 1% less than the previous year. The largest employer was Wise, which employed 1,899 workers. It is 114 people more than at the end of last year. Bolt increased its headcount to 20 workers since the end of last year, and it currently employs 1 290 employees. Marketplace of refurbished smartphones Swappie has 409 employees. The number of its workers reduced by 78 compared to the end of last year.
