PVcase acquired US software for renewables Anderson Optimization

Lithuanian developer of solar project design software PVcase acquired US solar siting software platform Anderson Optimization. The amount of the deal is undisclosed.

The startup was founded in Kaunas in 2018 by Douglas Geist and David Trainavicius. PVcase is a photovoltaic (solar) technology software company, which helps plan and design solar projects. It incorporates 3D topographical data points to simulate the actual location of the solar plant. The company solution is used by builders and owners of utility-scale solar farms.

US-based Anderson Optimization was founded in Boulder, Colorado, in 2016 by Eric and Jake Anderson. The company software helps find a better site for building a solar power plant on a particular plot of land, accounting for factors, such as interconnection, terrain analysis, solar potential, and environmental considerations. The startup provides data (grid infrastructure, parcels, GIS layers, including topo, wetlands, flood, tree cover, bedrock, 3etc.) and helps users identify parcels for renewable development.

The purchase of Anderson Optimization will help PVcase streamline the process of designing solar power plants in EU markets because Anderson Optimization’s software was not available in the EU countries before and worked only for US market. PVcase is bringing the Anderson platform to markets of Germany, Spain, and the UK during Intersolar Europe's Munich trade show next week.

According to PVcase CEO David Trainavicius, earlier, developers of solar projects used different software platforms to manage the multiple tasks of the photovoltaic project design process. Some data differs from #platform to platform, some data is not yet digitized, and its transfer could be made manually, which leads to data loss. The purchase of Anderson Optimization will help developers of solar projects cut their data loss risk because now all the data will be provided on a single platform. PVCase claims that European developers will also be able to save time on the project design process from weeks to roughly 20 minutes.

With the acquisition, Anderson co-founders Jake and Eric Anderson will continue in their respective leadership positions at that company.
